For December, here is a small poem produced in my creative writing class observing the discipline of the Japanese tanka tradition which comprises 31 syllables. It starts with an image from nature and then moves into a personal perspective.
I was inspired by the orange pyracantha bringing vibrancy to my winter garden and the stillness of my cat, Tigger, sleeping peacefully through the long days.
Orange berries burst
on thorny winter branches;
inside as dusk descends
reflections turn to you
sitting still through shifting light.
